TRU HiKiNG helpful links for hikers
These are great sites for thru-hike planning:
- Jim Wolf and the CDTS, (Continental Divide Trail Society), do great guidebooks and maps along with hiker updates on the best routes.
- The Yogi guides are fabulous for resupply, water, and towns on the Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trail.
- Eric the Blacks guides for the Pacific Crest Trail look to be the perfect combo of guide and map, I have not personally used them
- Everyone who hikes the Continental Divide Trail knows who Jonathan Ley is and most use his maps along with Jim Wolfs books and Yogi’s guidebook.
- I love to follow Trail Journals. These are the stories of those who hike the trails. It can be helpful to read the stories of people hiking the same trail you are planning on. What they bring. Their highs and lows Where they have problems of any kind. You may have the same difficulties, such as losing the trail or finding water. There are a couple really good sites. I just like this one. Bluebearee is really informative and gives real suggestions and opinions, her journals are worth reading. Buddha is funny and I love her photos.
- Whiteblaze is a great place to ask any hiking questions.
- Steve has a nice direct way of explaining things. His website offers a lot of useful advice from a male perspective.
- Mags is helpful. He sure hikes.
- Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association and their western counter part aldawest are great resources for hikers and hiker gatherings.
